Spirit Horses are one with the land, no different than other wildlife that walk the earth. They are not feral or an intrusive species to be removed, and so are vital to the ecosystem.
Once established our wildlife sanctuary will be instrumental in preserving the accurate historical perspective of North America, specifically Alberta, and the land as well as all respecting and protecting all forms of pre-existing wildlife in the area, first horses included.
These horses have always been here!
The first horses are horses that have been on this land since time immemorial. There is a great deal of recent research from scientists and archeologists to support that these horses are from pre-colonial times.
Working alongside geneticists, our organization is developing a genetic tree to record the bloodline for these horses and we are working to have them designated as a specific and unique breed.
These Spirit Horses, first horses, are genetically unique from other horses and carry ancient DNA within their blood that has existed on these lands prior to the first settlers arriving.
There are pockets of these first horses (each also genetically unique to their area) that have been undergoing genetic testing proving they are a part of pre-existing wildlife on the land. Aside from these Spirit Horses there are also recognized groups that include the Ojibwe Horse and the Nokota Horse.
